FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does it cost to submit a film?
We believe in your work, not submission fees.

What do I get if my films accepted?
The prince/princess treatment: an all-access pass to the festival, complimentary lodging, entry to our VIP room, entry into our filmmaker dinner and filmmaker breakfast, your film projected on a $100,000 projector in front of hundreds of inspired people, the opportunity to interact with sponsors like Patagonia and peers, not to mention tons of free New Belgium beer!

What film length do you recommend?
5Point shows all lengths of films from 1 minute to 90 minutes, but a vast majority of our films are under 40 minutes. In fact, we only have one feature length slot for the entire festival. When in doubt, send us a shorter cut — we may ask filmmakers to trim film length in order to fit it in our program.

What types of films to you accept?
As an adventure film festival, our core films tell stories within the backdrop of biking, skiing, surfing, kayaking, climbing, and other adventure sports, but we’re not afraid to step out of these constraints if a film deeply embodies our five guiding principles: respect, commitment, humility, purpose and balance. We’re more interested in the human element and the story than seeing someone huck themselves off a cliff repeatedly. If it inspires adventure of any sort, we dig it.

Here are some films from year’s past that we love and think embody our mission:

Carbondale, CO is way out there, why should I come to the festival?
Because Carbondale is paradise. Also to be a part of the madness and grow and be inspired. We leave our Thursday and Friday daytime open so you can go climb, ski, bike, run, or hopscotch in this beautiful valley. Plus we’ve been known to help out with filmmaker traveling fees to and from the festival. AKA no excuses not to come.

Do you present awards?

Yes, we present six different film awards: Best of Festival, Spirit of Adventure, Most Inspiring Story, Best Cinematography, Creative Excellence and People’s Choice.  Awards are presented on Sunday of the festival. Check our past award winners here.
