Colorado’s leading adventure film festival, 5Point Film, today announces that Luis Yllanes will take the helm as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective December 22, 2021.
Yllanes joins 5Point following a 12-year tenure at the Aspen Art Museum in various roles including most recently, Chief Operating Officer, and a 20-year career founded in arts management and education.
A Carbondale resident, who also serves on the Town of Carbondale Board of Trustees, Yllanes first moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2009 and distinctly remembers his first time as a 5Point Film festival audience member. Yllanes went on to serve as a 5Point Dream Project juror for the last three years, observing the valuable opportunity the 5Point scholarship program has provided to Roaring Fork Valley high-school students. Yllanes is keen to grow 5Point’s robust education programming, which has grown extensively over the last two years since the Covid-19 global health pandemic limited the organization’s capacity to host full-scale in-person events including its flagship film festival.
“It’s my honor to join 5Point, an exceptional community-building institution that provides so much inspiration beyond its five-day event film programming,” said Yllanes. “The 5 points – purpose, respect, commitment, humility, and balance – are a philosophy for life, similar to the Aspen Idea, and embody a holistic purpose in terms of what it means to live, especially in the Roaring Fork Valley. I am excited to drive 5Point forward with mission-driven programming as we look ahead to bringing back our flagship event in person in 2022.”
5Point also announces its end-of-year fundraising campaign, Support The Stories, which launches December 1, 2021, and culminates in a one-night online film program available to campaign supporters, premiering Thursday, December 16, 2021. A 501c3, 5Point relies on financial support from the community to fulfill its mission of providing film programming and educational resources, along with filmmaker development resources including financial assistance to film projects.
