Carbondale, CO (June 21, 2022) – 5Point Film in partnership with The Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW) will kick off its first summer film series to celebrate the spirit of adventure and the beauty of the natural world with the critically acclaimed film FIRE OF LOVE. From director, Sara Dosa and from National Geographic Documentary Films comes the extraordinary love story of intrepid French scientists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who died just as explosively as they lived —capturing the most spectacular imagery ever recorded of their greatest passion: volcanoes.

The first of the film series will screen at TACAW, 400 Robinson Street, Basalt, at 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022, admission is $18 in advance / $25 day of. Subsequent films will follow on Thursday, August 11th and Thursday, September 15th, 2022.

Tickets for September 15th: https://tacaw.org/calendar/the-yin-yang-of-gerry-lopez/

Katia and Maurice Krafft loved two things —each other and volcanoes. For two decades, the daring French volcanologist couple roamed the planet, chasing eruptions and documenting their discoveries. Ultimately, they lost their lives in a 1991 volcanic explosion, leaving a legacy that forever enriched knowledge of the natural world. Director Sara Dosa and the filmmaking team fashion a lyrical celebration of the intrepid scientists’ spirit of adventure, drawing from the Kraffts’ spectacular archive. FIRE OF LOVE tells a story of primordial creation and destruction, following two bold explorers as they venture into the unknown, all for the sake of love.

Beautifully narrated by Miranda July and created from archival footage of the Krafft’s explorations of these breathtaking volcanos, the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to wide acclaim, where it won the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award in the U.S. Documentary category. The film will be released in Los Angeles and New York on July 6th, 2022, followed by wider theatrical distribution before being released online.

“We are so thrilled to launch the 5point Summer Film Series and thankful to TACAW for their willingness to partner with us on this new film series,” said Luis Yllanes, Executive Director of 5Point Adventure Film Festival “To be able to bring these acclaimed films to the audience of the Roaring Fork Valley helps us deliver on our goal of providing year-round programming.”
